Peshawari Chapli Kebab

These don't look like much and the fluorescent lighting definitely doesn't help, but Chapli Kebab are the culinary pride of Peshawar, and if you ever get the chance to indulge in a plate, take it - especially if it's in a hole in the wall canteen that serves nothing else and is packed entirely with migrant Pakistani labourers from Peshawar on their lunch break.

Peshawari are some friendly folks and the atmosphere alone made the meal an 11/10. The chaps sitting at our shared table might not have spoke a word of English, but insisted we try some of their kebabs whilst waiting for our own, and refused to take anything back in return. The food itself was quite good, and we weren't hungry again the rest of the day. Total cost: 11 riyals, or a bit less than $3….
