Pokhara's New Airport Opens

When we returned to our village hideaway from Pokhara on 1 January, the 22km journey took approximately 3.5 hours. While this was mainly on account of the new, awkwardly named "Regional International Airport" being inaugurated with the help of the prime minister arriving from Kathmandu and seemingly half the city arriving on foot along the main road, it also seemed like the peculiarities of Nepalese driving etiquette (ie a chaotic free-for-all where literally everything goes) might have also played some small part in the delay. Regardless of who gets the credit, it was obviously yet another interesting cultural experience to behold....
