On This Day in 2022: Meaningless Milestones

A meaningless milestone at an incredibly dodgy (and moderately photogenic) border. Good times. Although the ability to spell 'caipirinha' without the assistance of spellcheck did not last very long....

It seemed fitting that entering our 100th country was done at one of the strangest (not really a border) borders we’ve ever been to.

Since this tres fronteras is in the middle of nowhere, all the immigration bureaucracy is done at either the airport (Colombia), a little floating house on the Amazon (Colombia and Peru) or the Policia Federal in Tabatinga (Brasil - but the second door, not the first one, regardless of what the security guard outside tells you), and you can more or less move freely between all three countries before or after getting whatever stamps you need to get.

And speaking of freely, we’ll freely admit that we celebrated this most momentous (but let’s be honest, ultimately pointless) of milestones in the most cliché manner possible, ie getting a caipirinha at a roadside stall and then learning how to spell caipirinha without the aid of spellcheck or autocorrect, as we drunkenly sent messages to random people.

We won’t apologise though. Not everyone can be awesome and original all of the time. Plus clichés are generally clichés for a decent reason……
