On This Day in 2021

"Galleries are unfortunately still closed here in Kuala Lumpur, as the govt has once again extended the ongoing Movement Control Order. However, we did have the good luck of coming across this public art exhibition the other day.

It seems to be titled 'Awas: Mercedes' (Watch out: Mercedes), and obviously explores the interplay between the viewer and the viewed, the animate and inanimate, while also being a powerful, pungent commentary on the death throes of late capitalism.

Are we being warned that a freshly burned out Mercedes is about to assault our senses? Or is the Mercedes itself being warned that it's become a public spectacle for all the wrong reasons? We love it when artists leave their works ambiguous!"
